Securing a Legacy: Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation’s Historic Closure
In 2008, with leadership and support from its legendary founder and choreographer Merce Cunningham, the Cunningham Dance Foundation began laying the groundwork for its closure. During the ensuing five years, flexible capital played a catalytic role in securing the Foundation’s artistic legacy and providing career transition support for dancers and staff, as well as in highlighting an approach for the field at large.
